USGS National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) Instance of TNM Viewer The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is the surface water component of The National Map. The NHD is a digital vector dataset used by geographic information systems (GIS). It contains features such as lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, canals, dams and streamgages. These data are designed to be used in general mapping and in the analysis of surface-water systems. The NHD created an Instance of the TNM Viewer to cater towards hydrography customers that are interested in viewing and downloading hydrography data specifically, but the Instance also allows the user the capability of viewing and downloading all other overlays as well. The NHD Instance has an NHD Basemap as well as the other TNM basemap options. Contacts: USGS NHD Program, Kathy Isham,
