TNM Services in ArcMap Template

In 2010, the USGS Community for Data Integration had a goal to incorporate new National Map base data layer services in existing mapping applications and document case studies as a demonstration of using these corporate data assets. The attached ArcMap MXD Templates were created as palettes to drag and drop services from this MXD into scientist MXDs to make mashup within ArcMap. For static and stable services, this model ...more »

TNM LiDAR Elevation Data Employed in Carolina Bay Survey

http://www.cintos.org/Survey/Maps Aerial photographs of Carolina bays taken in the 1930’s sparked research into their geomorphology, but revealed only part of their unique planforms. Digital Elevation Maps, created in Global Mapper using LiDAR-derived data from the USGS’s National Map Server, accentuate the visual presentation of these shallow basins. To support a geospatial survey, the LiDAR maps were exported as KML-JPEG ...more »

Using The National Map Lidar Elevation Data to Study Volcanoes

Light detection and ranging (lidar) point cloud data were used to generate digital elevation models (DEMs) of Mount St. Helens. The high resolution and increased vertical accuracy lidar DEMs are incorporated into the National Elevation Dataset, the elevation layer of The National Map, and are important for studying debris flows surrounding the volcano. The 3D animation of the dome was developed by the U.S. Geological ...more »
