Re-Usable Web based NHD Network Tracing Components

Abstract: Because GIS administrators need to build web mapping applications without writing code, re-usable components were developed: a Server Object Extension (SOE) and an add-in for Esri's Viewer for Silverlight. Without writing any code, a mapservice was configured to serve NHD information from the National Atlas, and extended with the SOE for tracing capabilities. Using the Builder tool, a web map app was built ...more »

myNewYorkviewer: Integrating TNM Services with Local Data

The ESRI ArcGIS Explorer (AGX) desktop viewer provides an excellent environment to mash-up geospatial datasets from authoritative federal, state, and local sources. Highlighting several TNM map services, the myNYviewer integrates a range of live state (NY and PA) and county government map services, including local geospatial datasets. The mash-up focuses on the Marcellus Shale gas development in the Southern Tier region ...more »

TNM LiDAR Elevation Data Employed in Carolina Bay Survey

http://www.cintos.org/Survey/Maps Aerial photographs of Carolina bays taken in the 1930’s sparked research into their geomorphology, but revealed only part of their unique planforms. Digital Elevation Maps, created in Global Mapper using LiDAR-derived data from the USGS’s National Map Server, accentuate the visual presentation of these shallow basins. To support a geospatial survey, the LiDAR maps were exported as KML-JPEG ...more »

Using TNM for contributing to OpenStreetMap

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a wiki-like map of the world. Public domain data is an important information source for OSM. While many layers from TNM have been uploaded in bulk to OSM, many have not. TNM layers are provided as cached tiles and WMS layers that, with a little effort, can be used to digitize features directly into OSM. Exporting JSON Mashup into KML to open in KML Viewers

The TNM Viewer uses a GeoServices REST Specification that ESRI submitted to the OWF. Its a nice beginning standard to a JSON-Version like the OGC Web Context Profile in XML. In any case, since lots of viewers like Google Earth, Open Layers, Google Maps, Bing, and many ESRI Viewers reads KML, but not the JSON GeoServices Spec standard (yet), it may be easier to share the JSON Mashup as KML. The following demo takes a ...more »

Saving TNM Viewer Mashup as ArcMap MXD in 1-click

Create Core Capabilities to Port Context Configurations in TNM Viewer to MXD First the TNM Viewer would need port the services setup and/or turned on (users choice) to JSON – users setup already in the configuration, as well as the user added content. TNM Team recently did this for another service, so the effort to make this a module to be used in this case should be minimized  Then the Port capability would read that ...more »
